…old-fashioned and appealing

It was in Allen, Texas, in 1878 that infamous Sam Bass is said to have robbed the first train in Texas history.

While nothing quite as notorious has happened here since, Allen today is a booming location. In fact, its population has swelled from 40,000 to over 75,000 in just the past seven years.

The predominantly middle-to-upper-class residents are drawn to this suburb of Dallas by its low-key atmosphere and quaint aesthetics: church spires, small businesses, quiet residential streets and a healthy educational system. Interesting Allen factoid #1: Allen High School proudly claims the largest marching band in the world, with 650 members.

There are a few exciting developments on the town’s horizon—namely the recently created Allen Arts Alliance and the one million square-foot Village at Allen, which will offer a mix of shops, restaurants, office space and a large event center.

So, other than the occasional marching band practice and the sound from the conveniently located expressway, Allen seems content to keep itself a quiet, laid-back haven for its resident Dallas and Richardson commuters.
