In Rockwall—a community that got its name from a mysterious underground wall whose origin is still debated—residents make the most of their marina village, located on the east side of Lake Ray Hubbard. Boating and fishing are popular, and for more competitive spirits, the Rush Creek Yacht Club holds regular sailing regattas.

The town is great on land, too; the Rockwell Community Playhouse and the Lakeside Singers have annual shows, and city-sponsored concerts are held throughout the year. Hop across the Lake to the downtown district of Rockwall for historic diversions, including specialty shops, restored buildings and independent restaurants.
