…¡Celebre la historia y la tradición hispánicas!

Though it’s immediately west of the center of downtown, West Dallas feels almost rural, with industrial-looking buildings interspersed among single-family homes. Several strong, family-oriented, mostly Hispanic neighborhoods keep the area lively, though.

There are festivals and celebrations here like Cinco de Mayo, Dieciseis de Septembre, Juneteenth and Black History Month, and famous landmarks like the Bonnie-and-Clyde-famous Dallas/Irving Bridge (it was their escape route out of Dallas).

An important part of this area is the 56,000-sq.-ft. Lakewest Multipurpose Center, home of the Lakewest YMCA and the Kid’s Café, where over 1,700 children in Dallas and Denton counties get fed an evening meal as part of after-school programs. This is far from the wealthiest area in the DFW area, but organizations like this and several Texas Historical Markers nearby demonstrate how West Dallas takes care of its residents and has pride in its community.
