…the name says it all

Golden was one of the first towns established in Colorado since it was on the way to the gold fields. It is about 15 miles from the center of Denver. It was founded during the gold rush of 1859, but gold seekers were not its first inhabitants. The area had been frequented by the Ute, Arapaho and Cheyenne tribes, as well as early trappers Louis Vasquez and Rufus Sage.

Famous western showman William "Buffalo Bill" Cody is buried nearby on Lookout Mountain.

The Colorado School of Mines, offering programs in mining and engineering, is located in Golden. Also there are the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Coors Brewing Company and the Colorado Railroad Museum.
