…suburban quirk

In the western part of the San Fernando Valley, Northridge and North Hills proudly boast their suburban idiosyncrasies.

For Northridge, its history of Little League Championships and the major 1994 earthquake (though recent research proved that the epicenter was actually Reseda) has defined the area. And in a neighborhood so similar to The Simpsons’ eclectic Springfield, U.S.A., it’s quite fitting that Nancy Cartwright, the actress best-known for voicing Bart, would be named “Honorary Mayor of Northridge” in 2005—even though this unincorporated area, teeming with strip malls, chain stores, CSU buildings and modest homes and apartment buildings doesn’t actually have a city government.

North Hills, to the immediate east, is one of the oldest neighborhoods in The Valley. Formerly known as Sepulveda, this area is highly varied. Some parts have a small-town community feel, with local activism keeping its residents busy. Other areas have a history of street crime and drug sales dating back at least to the 1970s. Major thoroughfares include Lassen, Plummer, Roscoe and Sepulveda.

Just a little off-center, if that’s your thing.
