Silver Lake

Send to a friend

…an indie 'hood with its own groove

You know a thing or two about music. You’ve mastered Guitar Hero I and II. You’re the person who knows the latest rock and pop news and everyone’s looking to borrow your iPod.

If this is you, head for Silver Lake.

Just five miles northwest of LA and south of Griffith Park, Silver Lake is an established, eclectic arts community with a wide variety of ethnicities, incomes and subcultures. It's been home to dynamos like Beck, Karen O, the Eels, Porno for Pyros, Henry Rollins, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pavement, Rilo Kiley… the list goes on and on.

But despite all the big sounds, Silver Lake is really kind of a quiet, creative 'hood with lots of art galleries, café life and some great Italian food.

Summer brings out the best, too, with the Italian-centric St. Bartholomew’s Church Feast and the rockin’ Sunset Junction Street Fair.
