Actress from the ABC Television show “Lost” will become the newest resident of The Summit, a luxury condominium development in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, July 8, 2008 – International actress, Yunjin Kim, best known for her portrayal of Sun Kwon on ABC’s hit television show “Lost”, has joined with Big Rock Partners, LLC to premier ‘The Summit on Sixth’, a new luxury condominium project in Los Angeles.

Yunjin Kim will be featured in newspaper and magazine advertisements, as well as other marketing materials in both English and Korean. The campaign is expected to begin running in July and will appear in leading Asian and English language newspapers and magazines.

During an initial business meeting and tour of the property with Big Rock Partners, Yunjin Kim was impressed with the design, quality and location of the condominium development, and expressed a personal interest in the property. After business discussions, Kim reserved a unit and will soon be calling ‘The Summit on Sixth’ her new home in Los Angeles. “It was by fate that this partnership with Big Rock came about. They didn’t know I was looking for a home in LA, and when I toured the property, I was really impressed with the design and its central location. People that know me can attest to my attention to detail, and I wouldn’t endorse something I didn’t believe in. I wouldn’t call a place home if it didn’t feel like home, and The Summit felt like home,” said Yunjin Kim.

Big Rock Partners, the developers of The Summit, were equally excited regarding the upcoming partnership and of the actress’ decision to become their newest resident. Bennett Kim, managing partner for Big Rock Partners, stated “When Yunjin Kim agreed to be featured in The Summit ads, we were thrilled. But when she inquired about reserving a unit, we were just ecstatic. The Summit was built with the idea of creating an elegant home with the ultimate luxury and ultramodern amenities. We believe this partnership with Yunjin now further exemplifies our residence as being a sought after address located in the heart of Los Angeles.”

‘The Summit on Sixth’ is an 11-story luxury condominium development designed by acclaimed architects from Van Tilburg Banvard Sopderbergh. The complex boasts 96 one-and-two bedroom units of opulence. All residences feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows and up to 11’ ceilings, with unparalleled views of Los Angeles. Floor plans range from 1,041 to 1,769 square feet, and are moderately priced from $500,000 to $1,500,000. The Summit features high-class amenities, such as: golf driving range simulator, steam room, fitness center, social lounge, and much more.

The Summit is located at the center of the Sixth Street Corridor in the heart of Los Angeles’ Koreatown. The residence is minutes from Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood and Beverly Hills and the Grove. It is steps from the financial district of Wilshire Blvd., LA Metro Station, upscale nightlife, and every modern convenience.

Friday, July 25, 2008

New York (Tadias) - U.S. Doctors for Africa (USDFA) announced earlier this week that it will be hosting the first Annual African First Ladies Health Summit in Los Angeles in April 2009.

USDFA in collaboration with African Synergy, an NGO founded by African First Ladies, has formed a strategic partnership to efficiently mobilize and deliver needed medical resources to African countries. The summit will highlight current and prospective projects to be taken by USDFA and African Synergy.

"This is probably one of the most empowering initiative we have ever been involved in," says Ted Alemayhu, Executive Chairman and CEO of USDFA. "What is exciting about this particular partnership is that the entire movement is initiated and mobilized by the First Ladies themselves. And it is a great testimony, commitment, and dedication that needs to be encouraged and supported by all stake-holders around the world."

The summit is held in collaboration with the African Synergy Against AIDS and Suffering, an NGO founded by African First Ladies. Mr. Alemayhu described this strategic partnership as a way to re-ignite the dialogue and work on key African health initiatives. "It would help to mobilize women's strength & commitment to a better Africa" he said.
USDFA seeks to help advance the First Ladies efforts to create an effective and sustainable complementary approach in the fight against public health issues affecting Africa's development.

The first Annual African First Ladies Health Summit will particularly focus on the threat of HIV/AIDS on children in Africa. "USDFA is prepared to be engaged in the helping the people of Africa with the full support and direct assistant & participation of the First Ladies" Mr. Alemayhu told Tadias. "USDFA and African Synergy share the common belief that healthcare is a basic human right, and recognize that a healthy population is essential for growth, development, and prosperity in every society."

In addition to the summit, USDFA will mobilize volunteers and other resources from the United States and strategically distribute these resources in regions where they are most needed, in accordance with African Synergy's recommendations.
This all white attire event serves to benefit the organization, a south bay charity that provides free of charge Mentoring Support Programs and Friendship Activities, Temporary Family Support Programs, Molly’s Corner Book Program and Mentee Scholarship Programs for children ages 7-17 all over Los Angeles who are living with or have lost a parent or sibling to cancer.
This year’s live auction will include a half-court Basketball Toss to win a brand new BMW 128i Cv8 in Alpine White with Gray Boston Leather interior, Cold Weather and Premium Package, Steptronic automatic transmission and Chrome line exterior valued at an estimated at $43,000 and a 3-point Basketball Toss to win a 1 year Executive Membership at Equinox South Bay, voted "Best Gym in America" by Fitness Magazine.

A signature component of White Light White Night is a video presentation highlighting some of the many activities that the Walk With Sally children participate in. Each activity provides a way to teach them something new, let them share in the activity, and have fun. Most importantly, Walk With Sally events provide the children a much-needed respite from the stress and trauma of living with or mourning the loss of losing a family member with cancer. Last year’s activity leading up to White Light White Night was called “Shear Scoop”. The Walk With Sally kids were physically and emotionally transformed by haircuts and styling at Hush Hush Hair Salon. They learned how to make ice cream at Manhattan Creamery. They also created inspirational necklaces from Energy Muse and Tabula Rasa Essentials.

The title sponsors for White Light White Night are South Bay BMW and Equinox. Other event sponsors include Chevron, Body Glove, Dipaola Foundation, Manhattan Car Wash, Adia, Tabula Rasa Essentials, Senta Bella, Inc., Blaze PR, Raleigh Studios, and Shotgun Honeymoon. Local area businesses providing their services include Hennessey's Tavern who is featuring beer tastings from Samuel Adams and Pyramid; Mucho's who is featuring tequila tastings including 3 choices of Herradura tequila; Pancho's who is featuring Margarita's, Silvio's Brazilian BBQ with exotic cocktails; Hope Wines featuring their signature Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon; water and sparkling juices provided by Fiji Waters, GuS Sparkling Juices, and Function.

About Walk With Sally
Walk With Sally is committed to providing healing and comfort to children debilitated by the emotional experience of living with or losing a parent to cancer. This healing is facilitated through free of charge mentoring support programs and services that provide an emotionally safe environment for children to share their difficult experience with someone who has suffered the same.
In other words, you’re looking for costumes, masks, face and body paint, performers of all kinds, art, live music, dancing. And probably more – sequins and glitter? In fact, the food will be good. No doubt, the drinking will be better!

The festival focuses on the cultural and artistic diversity of the Venice citizenry and certainly welcomes and entertains all Venice visitors. It’s quite the unique blend of Korean residents from nearby suburbs such as Cerritos and Irvine who sought a more urban environment, immigrants from South Korea who wanted better job opportunities, ‘hipsters who were forced out of other neighborhoods with higher rents that have already gone through the revitalization and of course college students who attend USC and UCLA who moved into the area because of the great nightlife, cheaper rent, great ethnic food and easy to access public transportation.

I love the feeling of spring turning into summer in LA. And with daylight savings happening so early this year, I can already feel myself relaxing like its summer as the days get longer and my evenings incorporate more sun and less darkness.

Baseball season is yet another sign that spring is really here. Who doesn't love watching that first pitch at Dodger's stadium? LA Dodgers Opening Day is just around the corner. On Monday, March 31 the Dodger's stadium in Echo Park will be packed with fans, and the little kids (and big alike) will be smiling with anticipation as they take in the first game of the Dodger's 2008 season. I heard the game is sold out, but I am sure you can find a resell ticket website to score some last minute seats if you are willing to pay the price. Or try Craigslist, I know of friends who have gotten some good deals on this site from folks trying to get rid of a ticket for whatever reason.

Or if you can't score a seat, pack a picnic and head to Echo Park. You can always enjoy the excitement in the air with friends or family and people watch the many fans heading to the stadium. Even if I can't score tickets to LA Dodgers Opening Day, I think I can smell a ballpark hot dog in my future.

Green and Energy Efficient Apartments in Los Angeles

Are you looking for a Green apartment? Moving to LA, I consciously made the decision that I would try my hardest to never let traffic bother me. I know it’s LA. It’s got to be bad, but it can’t be that bad, can it? It can. Believe me.

I think I’ve done a great job at not letting the clutter of the LA freeways affect my overall mood. However, I’ve realized that it is impossible to never let it get to me. I’ll sum it up: the only time I let the traffic actually get to me is when I’m late or in a hurry. Whenever I have to get somewhere in LA, no matter if my final destination is 10 or 50 miles away, I give myself at least one hour.

In an all around unpredictable city, transportation is no different. I drive the same route to work every day. I take my street (36th Place) west to Normandie, go North on Normandie to the 10 West. I take the 10 West all the way to the 405 North and end my journey at Ventura Boulevard. This is an approximate 17 mile drive. On Wednesday afternoon I left at 2:00 p.m. The roads were wide open and I was able to drive at least 70 MPH on both the 10 and the 405. I arrived at work at 2:14 p.m. The next day, Thursday afternoon, I left at 2:15 p.m. to find all the roads cluttered and slow. There was an accident on the 10, and consequently, I was never able to go faster than 40 MPH. The 405 had its usual clutter and was bumper to bumper almost all the way. I did not arrive at work until 3:19. Leaving at approximately the same time, driving the exact same route, it took me an hour and four minutes longer on Thursday than it did on Wednesday!

I was supposed to be at work at 3:00 p.m., and when 2:45 rolled around, I started to lose my patience. I left home with more than enough time to make it to work on time, yet I still managed to be 19 minutes late!!! The very worst part was that there was nothing I could do to remedy my dilemma. I became quite irritable and did not calm down until I realized, after an hour of pain-staking work, that it was not my fault, that there was nothing I could have done differently to fix the problem. But then I remembered that I only gave myself 45 minutes to make it, instead of an hour. If I had left only 15 minutes earlier, I would have only been four minutes late instead of 19.

So that’s my remedy: just give myself an hour.

Coming home from work at 11:00 p.m. usually is not “rush hour”, but two nights out of five last week I ran into gut-wrenching traffic after 11 p.m. There is nothing worse in the entire world than drowning in the endless sea of red that floods the night causeways after a full day’s work. Luckily, LA also has some of the best radio stations in the entire world. The stream of red is definitely the ugliest part of Los Angeles, but with the bad and the ugly inevitably comes the good. There’s just no way around it. Its narrow space, close quarters tables and long wooden bar make it perfect for date night, drinks with friends and of course a celeb siting or two (my first time there I sat next to Kirsten Dunst).

I have to rave about the following items on the menu:
Apps: French onion soup, feta and tomato corstini, cheese plate and buffalo mozzarella salad
Entrees: Any crepe and the pizza Poubelle
Desert: the Nutella crepe or the molten chocolate cake

Their wine isn’t too shabby either. Although be prepared to spend a pretty penny on the drinks. But the wine chats and purple lips are worth every last dime.

Who knew Rami had such amazing talent after all his boring (but beautiful) draped pieces throughout the {Project Runway season? REPUBLIC Restaurant and Lounge
[where: 650 N La Cienega Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90069]

In addition to L.A., it also serves other design havens such as Chicago, New York and San Francisco.

The coolest part about the site is the "House Tours" which let you take a peek inside some of L.A.'s poshest pads. You can even submit photos of your own abode!

The site also offers weekly contests, giveaways and projects to participate in. This week you can register to win a gorgeous duvet cover for the "Thursday Giveaway" promotion.

Dutton's location is to be redeveloped. It is unsure whether Dutton will open a new store, unfortunately, the competitive pressures of big box stores have resulted in, as Dutton puts it, 'a sober assessment of the realities of the book world.'

The following announcement is from the Dutton’s Brentwood Books website:

It is with profound regret and sorrow that Dutton’s Brentwood Books must announce that it will be closing on April 30, 2008.

As our regular customers and friends well know, the past year for the store has been one of upheaval and turmoil. Hard on the heels of the closure of the Dutton’s Beverly Hills location came word that the Brentwood property had changed ownership, and the new owner, Charles T. Munger, announced plans to redevelop the property. The multiple uncertainties of the bookstore’s future, combined with the encumbrances associated with the closure of the Beverly Hills store have crippled the store’s ability to provide the kind of immediate service and depth of inventory that our customers have come to rightly expect.

It is no secret that the store today is a shadow of its former self. Given our situation as it now stands, the pride we feel in our past achievements, and the vagaries of the current book market, shuttering our doors seems the only realistic solution. It is important to note that Charles Munger has committed to a significant amount of financial support for the difficult process of closing the store, and we appreciate his generosity.

Be assured, especially those of you who have regularly asked, “How are things going at the store,” that every effort has been made to try to sensibly and rationally save this enterprise. Those efforts continued up until last week. It is the uncertainty that has, more than any other factor, led us to this painful decision. It has arrested improvement to the physical property, impacted inventory, and made it impossible for our extraordinary staff to provide the level of service that they are accustomed to giving.

We have been asked if the store will reopen in the proposed new development, or at another site in the area. At present, any plans to reopen or relocate will have to await a real offer in a real situation, combined with a sober assessment of the realities of the book world. That said, we have not said “no” to any future possibility.

The one certainty that we have relied upon for our many years at this location is the honest and dedicated support by this community to the value of books and bookstores in general, and to this one in particular. This is a demonstrable fact, proven repeatedly, and while we openly acknowledge our debt to our customers for their years, and even decades, of support, we further ask for your understanding and forbearance in the extremely difficult months ahead.

Fast, Easy and Delicious Food around USC

One of the perks to living near any college campus is the food. It’s no secret that the majority of college students don’t know how to make their own food, or it could be that they are simply too lazy, but one way or the other, there is always good restaurant food around any college campus, and USC is no different. The best aspect of finding food around USC is the variety. If you’re looking for something quick, easy and relatively unhealthy, there are a plethora of fast food restaurants, ranging from McDonalds and Burger King to Taco Bell, Del Taco, Subway or even Panda Express. All of these fast food restaurants are within walking distance of campus, and any of these options will offer a quick fix for your empty stomach. Panda Express, McDonalds, Del Taco and Subway are also open 24 hours, which can come in especially handy on the all-nighters that inevitably surface every term around finals.

If the typical fast food chains are not your cup of tea, there are many other viable options in the USC area. Sizzler is located right next to the Radisson Hotel and offers a nice variety of sea food and steaks at reasonable prices. If you like Mexican food, you’ve got possibilities at nearly every corner. La Barca [where: 2414 S Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90007] is the most notorious Mexican food restaurant in the USC area. If you go to La Barca, you cannot miss out on their infamous margaritas. The food is pretty standard Mexican style, ranging from tacos and enchiladas to chimichangas and burritos. Whatever food option you pick at La Barca, you don’t have to worry about quantity of food. Every portion is massive, easily big enough to share. This offers a great option for a cheap meal, as long as you don’t mind sharing with a friend.

Pasta Roma [where: 2827 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90007] is the best Italian style cuisine around USC. Pasta Roma’s menu ranges from all types of pasta to sub style sandwiches to freshly baked pizza. All of the food at Pasta Roma is delicious, and even if you close your eyes and point at the menu, it’s hard to go wrong. Another great aspect of Pasta Roma is the fact that they deliver. I’ve never had a delivery from Pasta Roma where my food wasn’t still steaming as I started to dig in.

Every living area has its dark horse in the food industry. Near USC, this dark horse is Eat Street Grill [where: 3031 Figueroa at 31 Street, Los Angeles, CA 90007]. Eat Street, as it is called, is the biggest steal around USC. They serve breakfast all day and the other options on the menu are vast. Their salads are wonderful, their burgers are fantastic, and their chicken fried steak is to die for. Best of all, Eat Street is always cheap. Never expect to pay more than $10 or $12 bucks for a full meal!

The food options are definitely a high point of living in the USC area. No matter what kind of mood you are in, you are guaranteed to find something that will appease your craving!

The Best of Westwood…Navigating UCLA's Off Campus Scene

If you are attending college at UCLA, you are probably already aware of these Westwood gems, but for all you frosh, take notes!
Best place to treat yourself after you totally dominated an exam OR best place to wallow in self-pity when you fail
Diddy Riese Cookies
2 cookies, a scoop of ice cream, only $1.50? Nuff said.

Best place to study or at least look like you’re studying
Elysee Bakery
[where: 1099 Gayley Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90024]
Buttery croissants, the perfect espresso and free wireless make Elysee Bakery a good place to study near campus. Sometimes it can get a little busy which ups the noise level- so be sure to bring your iPod and earphones.

Best place to spend your student loan money
