…maybe father does know best

We had no idea places like Villa Park still existed in Orange County, CA.

Like an old television series set from the 1950s, the ranch-style homes sit on large lots in attractive, quiet neighborhoods. The 6,500 residents are friendly and proud of their city, the smallest in OC.

If you’re thinking of living here, or are already a newcomer, the Villa Park Women’s League is considered the first stop for help settling in, and the lowest crime rate in the country pretty much seals the deal.

Okay, there are some negatives. The city’s half-acre zoning laws were established in the early 1960s to shield it from the unwelcoming zoning practices of nearby Orange. The result: 1,900 single-family houses in a 2.1-square-mile area and only one shopping center. If you like the idea of one-stop shopping, it’s fine.

The center houses City Hall, a pharmacy, library, grocery store, banks, a few specialty stores and some offices. If you’re into nightlife, technology and shopping, maybe this little ‘burb isn’t for you. It’s all a little…well, retro. But if you yearn for the simple life…you’re home.
