…historic desert hotspot

Walk into Darla’s Country Kitchen and you’ll immediately understand Buckeye: homegrown, straightforward, hospitable with a touch of sass. Buckeye may feel like it’s in the middle of the desert with its gorgeous scenery, cowboy supply stores and historic, preserved gas stations and diners, but it’s actually an easy 30 miles west of downtown Phoenix via Interstate 10. In fact, there are lots of ways to get in and out of Buckeye—five highways, rail and a local airport.

Locals enjoy nearby Buckeye Hills Regional Park and Robbins Butte Wildlife Area, which provides a home to a myriad of birds, amphibians and reptiles. The rec area, close to downtown, has hiking, camping, picnicking and a shooting range. Plus check out Hellzapoppin Days, the annual street fair dating back to 1935, featuring parades, rodeos and a carnival.

Some really major things are in the works—like plans to build over 240,000 homes for the population boom Buckeye's expecting by 2010 (Forbes Magazine called it one of the fastest growing cities in the US). And, with the impending influx of residents, you can be certain that besides the Sundance Town Center, a lot more retail, restaurants and entertainment venues will follow.
