...walk this way

Normal Heights is anything but mundane.

The area’s name doesn’t refer to a state of mind, but to the State Normal School that opened here in 1897, a precursor to San Diego State University. This centrally-located ‘hood in the hills above Mission Valley is referred to as “one of the most walkable neighborhoods in San Diego.”

The high rate of pedestrian activity here, combined with a large number of funky, affordable coffee houses, pubs, antique and smoke shops, book stores, coffee houses, pubs, restaurants and apartments along Adams Avenue, offers residents urbane amenities with a small-town feel.

A blossoming arts community guarantees an impressive roster of events, such as The Adams Avenue Roots Festival, The Adams Avenue Street Fair, Art Around Adams, A Taste of Adams Avenue and Adams Avenue Antique Faire. If fairs aren’t your thing (or you just want to get off Adams Ave. for a change!), you can head to one of the many parks around Normal Heights or hit the nearby freeways for a day trip.

Believe us, Normal is never boring.
