…a resting place for beach bums and Navy folk

Port Hueneme (that’s why-NEE-mee) is a naval base, a shipping and receiving port and a low-key, laid-back beach community of about 22,000 people. Its south-facing beaches are a quiet retreat from the bustle and glamour that line some of SoCal’s Pacific coast.

This city is also home to the U.S. Navy’s famous construction battalion, known as the “Seabees,” whose unofficial motto is reported to be “Construimus, battuimus, bibimus”—if you missed first-year Latin, that means: “We build, we fight, we drink.”

Ventura County Naval Base employs over 15,000 people, and not surprisingly, this work-hard, play-hard group brings some pretty awesome activities to the community. Public parks, great restaurants and fun night spots pepper the town and make Port Hueneme more than just a place to ship most of LA’s pineapples.

We definitely think the town lives up to its name: wene me means “resting place” in Chumash, a Californian Native American language.
